Tactica Eldar:
Against the Green
Tide
Scribed by: Anonymous
In order not only to stand your
ground on the battlefield, but to be the clear winner one should
keep along to the art of the war to accomplish this (this book I
really recommend to everyone!) If you know what you are fighting
and much more important, what the aims of your opponents are and
how he tries to reach them, you can prepare yourself. Leave him
unclear of your aims, disturb him fulfilling his and victory is
usually yours.
But now to our green-skinned opponents, common adversaries these
times: Orks: Brutal, dull, primitive, green-skinned things,
which love close combat. Ork-players: Brutal, dull, primitive,
usually not-so-green-skinned things, who love to push around
green-skinned figures.
Know the enemy
Orks are not particularly subtle. which it is not to be called
that there is no subtle Ork-player. Orks are not good shooters,
but a damn lot of not so good shooters. Never underestimate
their firepower! Orks are good close-in fighters, especially
their character models. They should be on top of your list of
annihilation. Orks have a bad leadership value. But don't
believe that you can pin them therefore easily. This works only
with smaller mobs. Orks rot themselves usually with others
together after they fled. Then you stand against an enlarged mob
(loaded with characters and heavy weapons). Do not let them
therefore escape if possible. Orks taste particularly well
together with kneaded potatoes and fish. What do Orks want thus
now?
Now, they want to have fun and see us stomped into ground. Both
closes each other not out but complements quite well for them.
Generally one can say that Orks are looking for close combat
(even if they can quite win a fire fight). And close combat is
not possible (rarely, hardly.) in the own zone. Orks thus want
to close in with us. And this is already their principal aim
most times.
How do they get to us?
Now, usually to foot, some units in addition, by Pickup or by
infiltration. What, if I do not have hunger on spinach? Now,
just avoid getting into an Orks way. Unfortunately this will
succeed rarely. Thanks to the "incredible" 12" of ShurCats you
usually have to get very, very close to the Orks by yourself.
However you can quite pin smaller units of Orks with
pinning-weapons at distance. And it's always worth trying.
Especially I recommend using the shadow-weaver and the vibro-cannon
against Orks.
Thus do I have to up-eat my spinach nevertheless?
Definitely. But you should do it the Eldar-way: On spoon full of
Orks after another. Which means: Fight individual units, not the
whole horde. If you shoot 4-5 Orks in each mob, your opponent
doesn't mind. But if you shoot one mob completely, this is one
mob less which could tie you into close combat and your opponent
could get scared on behave more carefully, making things for you
much more easy (folds usually however only with newbies...
And how do I eat spinach now?
Generally star cannons or brightlances aren't that great against
Orks (except for Bossmobs and Ork-bots). The key to success
against a Ork-horde is the number of dices you can apply against
it. Trust me. And this applies for shooting and to close combat.
Which means: storm-guardians and defender-guardians will win
your games, supported by SOME aspect-warriors.
With our glorious warriors and the individual units of Orks as
well as their pro and cons I will deal in a later article, if
you are interested.
